Eötvös Loránd University has again modified the academic year as part of its energy-saving measures. It has also been decided that exams will be organized typically in external venues.

The change for the academic year 2022/23 will affect the registration, examination periods, and spring break.

Winter examination period will be extended

The examination period starting on 19 December will be extended by one week to 11 February. During the winter period, exams will typically not be held at the usual faculty locations and times, but in external venues, particularly in the university’s public education facilities, dormitories and heated rooms, according to a press release published on the university’s website.

The registration period for the spring semester will end on 19 February, while the early spring break will be from February 20 to February 25.

The spring semester will start on 27 February, with the last day of the academic term is 27 May.

The academic year had already been changed once

We previously wrote that ELTE had changed the academic year 2022/2023 for the first time at the beginning of September. The autumn break has been moved to 12-17 December, so the last day of the autumn semester will be the 9th December (10th December for correspondence training).

Other universities also introduced energy-saving measures

The University of Pécs has also announced its savings measures in response to the significant rise in energy prices. According to these, the temperature provided by heating cannot exceed 20 degrees in the university’s lecture, office and dormitory halls, and 18 degrees in the public halls and corridors. The saving measures also modify the structure of the academic year: the autumn break is cancelled.

The heating in lecture and dormitory halls can be set to a maximum of 20 degrees, according to energy-saving measures at Pázmány Péter Catholic University. Hot water is also turned off, and autumn, spring break will be cancelled.

The management of Corvinus University of Budapest has decided to extend the winter break. As part of energy saving measures, the building of the university will be closed for three weeks in winter season.
