From the academic year 2023/24, MA programmes in Animation and Design will be offered only in English at Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design, so that together with the two English MA programmes (Photography, Interaction Design) launched in September 2022, four English-language programmes will be available to MA students from the next academic year.
In its press release announcing the launch of the new programmes, MOME emphasises that it launched its English language programmes in September 2022 with the aim of being able to attract talents from the Baltics to the Western Balkans. MOME says that the launch of the two new English-language programmes represents another important milestone in this process. The university aims to become the most recognised university in the creative domain in Central Europe by 2030.

The English-language MAs are also available to students from Hungary and EEA countries, potentially with state-funding covering the entire tuition in case they submit their application through the Hungarian admission system.
The Design MA, one of the new English-language programmes to be launched in autumn 2023, aims “to train designers whit a strategic approach and proactive entrepreneurial mindset who can understand the world in a broader context”.
It includes two specialisations:
Career opportunities:
Animation MA will be the other new English programme which will be launched in September 2023. Apart from launching its programme entirely in English language from September 2023 Animation MA extends its portfolio by adding two new lines of specialisation to the existing Animation Director program:
The Video Game specialisation aims to respond to the increasing need for game designers in the Central and Eastern European region. Students who choose the program will learn about game mechanics, game design, developing, prototyping and producing video games and learn about the game industry. The programme’s goal is to train designers who will be able to create engaging video games and work in this sector by founding their own company or by joining renowned production houses, MOME says in its website.
The Immersive Storytelling specialisation provides students with theoretical and practical knowledge on designing immersive narrative spaces and working in virtual and extended reality environments. The program also focuses on virtual production technology, which is highly interested in recent years’ filmmaking. The Immersive Storytelling program’s goal is to support non-linear formats, experimental storytelling and encourage students to work with creative technologies.
Career opportunities:
Photography MA, which has a nearly 40-year history, has been available only in English from September 2022. It trains “open-minded and highly autonomous artists who are able to respond sensitively and progressively to the challenges of the world, supported by state-of-the-art technology and renowned teachers”, MOME’s information website says about the programme.
The programme covers “the development and full-spectrum implementation of long-term photography projects; design and art research; the development of the Central and Eastern European vision of the genre; and the exploration of its intersections”.
Career opportunities:
The other English-language MA programme launched in September 2022 trains experts “who will play a leading role in designing the most innovative digital services of the future”. “Our graduate designers are familiar with the international scene and its opportunities, and are well-equipped to make a significant impact on digital culture” – MOME says in its website about Interaction Design MA.
Career opportunities:
From September 2023, the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME) will launch a new English-language bachelor training programme in physics and engineering, the first of its kind in Hungary, in response to the shortage of specialists in innovative companies.
From the next academic year, Corvinus University of Budapest will launch three English-language programmes that have not been available in Hungary before. Two of them (Philosophy, Politics, Economics and Data Science in Business) will be launched as bachelor’s programme (BA), while Political Economy will be launched as a master’s programme (MA).
